Culture, Arts and Leisure 25 February 2014

Session: 2013/2014

Date: 25 February 2014

The Minister for Culture, Arts and Leisure, Caral Ni Chuilin, was asked about support for bi-lingual signage.

The Minister gave details of a project by Foras na Gaelige to provide matched funding for businesses that wanted to provide Irish-language signage, bilingual packaging, shopping bags or websites.

DUP's Michelle McIlveen said the Minister's plans might go beyond her remit and require the support of the Executive as a whole.

Michelle McIlveen suggested there were better things to spend money on than "indulging in the minister's hobby".

The Minister was asked about Ulster Bank's cut in funding to the Belfast Festival at Queen's.

She replied by stating that she had no plans to make up the shortfall in the festival budget and advised the organisers to contact the Arts Council.

The Minister also answered questions about cycling, the former Girdwood barracks site in north Belfast and libraries.
