Statement from Speaker Alex Maskey MLA

Session: Session currently unavailable

Date: 16 March 2020

Reference: SO 04/19/20

The Assembly Commission, at its meeting today (Monday 16 March), has taken the decision to close Parliament Buildings to the public from Wednesday 18 March at 9.00pm. This decision has been taken in light of the public health situation.

No public tours, events or visitor activities will take place and members of the public will not be permitted access into Parliament Buildings, until further notice.

It is important that the Assembly continues to meet to carry out its political and legislative responsibilities at this difficult time.  Therefore, Assembly business will continue and can be watched via our live streams: https://niassembly.tv/

Permanent Assembly passholders and those essential to the delivery of Assembly business will continue to have access to the building, as required.

The Assembly Business Committee also met this evening and has agreed to keep Assembly business under review.
