Committee welcomes changes for Blue Badge holders

The Committee for Infrastructure has welcomed the review of the renewal process for Blue Badge holders, announced yesterday by the Infrastructure Minister.

The review is expected to consider the renewal process and fees for those with serious mobility issues.

Chairperson of the Committee, William Humphrey MLA said: "My Committee has been at the forefront of fighting for Blue Badge applicants, arguing for some time that the process for applying for badges was flawed and seriously disadvantaged those with long standing and serious mobility issues.

"We are therefore pleased that the Minister has now decided to hold a review into the way that people who desperately need Blue Badges can access them. It was obvious to us that the application process was not only imperfect but created real hardship for those who need them.

"My Committee will be closely following the progress of this review and public consultation. We have been determined, from the beginning, to ensure that all those who require Blue Badges should have no obstacles placed in their way, that the process should be easy for those who need them."
