Education and Library Boards and NIPSA to Have Their Say on Education Training Inspectorate

Synopsis: The Northern Ireland Assembly Committee for Education will continue taking evidence from the education and library boards and NIPSA on its Inquiry into the Education Training Inspectorate (ETI) and the School Improvement Process.

Session: 2013/2014

Date: 05 November 2013

The Northern Ireland Assembly Committee for Education will continue taking evidence from the education and library boards and NIPSA on its Inquiry into the Education Training Inspectorate (ETI) and the School Improvement Process.

The education and library boards have advised of a substantial reduction in support for struggling schools and have called for a standardised baseline assessment for all children entering primary and post-primary schools. BELB has recommended rigorous procedures to deal with inadequate teachers and principals.

NIPSA has highlighted its opposition to the possible adoption of adversarial 'OFSTED practices' in school inspections in Northern Ireland. NIPSA has also indicated concerns in respect of shorter timescales for inspections and the use of Associate Assessors as cost-saving measures which may reduce the professionalism and effectiveness of school inspections.

Time: 10.00am

Date: Wednesday, 6 November 2013

Venue: Senate Chamber, Parliament Buildings

The meeting will be streamed live and can be watched here:
