Committee to be Briefed on Proposed Changes to the Formal Intervention Procedure

Synopsis: The Northern Ireland Assembly Committee for Education will receive a briefing from Departmental officials on proposed changes to the Formal Intervention Procedure (FIP) at its meeting on Wednesday 5 February 2014.

Session: 2013/2014

Date: 04 February 2014

The Northern Ireland Assembly Committee for Education will receive a briefing from Departmental officials on proposed changes to the Formal Intervention Procedure (FIP) at its meeting on Wednesday 5 February 2014.

The Department consulted on changes to FIP which might lead for the first time to so-called “satisfactory” schools being subject to formal intervention and all schools in FIP undertaking an immediate assessment of their sustainability.  The proposed changes might mean that perhaps around 11 schools currently rated as “satisfactory” could enter formal intervention.

This briefing will inform the Committee’s continuing Inquiry into the Education and Training Inspectorate and School Improvement Process.
