SP291_22 Lt to All Members re Creeslough Book of Condolence.pdf (116.45 kb)

Dear Member

You will be aware of the tragedy that occurred in Creeslough, County Donegal, on Friday 7 October. I have been considering how the Assembly can pay its respects in recognition of the public shock and sympathy there has been across these islands since this terrible incident occurred.

I am conscious that had the Assembly been sitting, there would have been an opportunity for Members in plenary to place on record their expressions of sorrow and support for those affected.

It has been the Assembly’s convention to only open Books of Condolences following the death of a senior office holder. However, in the absence of the Assembly conducting normal business and given the scale of this tragedy, I will be arranging for a Book of Condolence to be opened to afford Members an opportunity to pay their respects.

It is my intention to open the Book of Condolence in the Great Hall this afternoon at 3pm. Our thoughts and prayers are with all those who have been bereaved and injured.

Yours sincerely,

Alex Maskey

Speaker of the Northern Ireland Assembly
