The Committee for Finance will meet again on Wednesday 26 January 2022 when it will receive a briefing from the Northern Ireland Fiscal Council on its report on the draft 2022-25 budget.

The Committee will receive an oral briefing from the Department on the outcome of January Monitoring.

The Committee will consider further evidence on the anticipated additional Legislative Consent motion on the Westminster Public Service Pensions and Judicial Offices Bill.

The Committee will also conclude clause by clause scrutiny and consider its report on the Defamation Bill.

Non-domestic Rates Valuations (Coronavirus) Bill

The Committee for Finance has concluded its scrutiny of the Non-domestic Rates Valuations (Coronavirus) Bill.

Defamation Bill - Call for Evidence

The Committee for Finance is currently scrutinising the Defamation Bill. The aim of the Bill is to reform the law of defamation to ensure that a fair balance is struck between the right to freedom of expression and the protection of reputation.

The Committee has put out a call for evidence and would like to hear your views.

Closing date for submissions was extended to Friday 19 November 2021.

Financial Reporting (Departments and Public Bodies) Bill

The Committee for Finance has concluded its scrutiny of the Financial Reporting (Departments and Public Bodies) Bill.

The Financial Reporting (Departments and Public Bodies) Bill amends the Government Resources and Accounts Act 2001 in order to allow the Department of Finance to issue directions about the preparation of Supply Estimates and to direct that such Estimates are to include information relating to “designated bodies”.
