2. Briefing from the Minister of Education on his statement to the Assembly on 26 September 2011 – ‘Putting Pupils First: Shaping Our Future – The Next Steps for Education’.

The Minister for Education, Paul Sweeney, Permanent Secretary, Katrina Godfrey, Director of the Planning and Performance Management Directorate, Diarmuid McLean, Director of Investment and Infrastructure Directorate and Adrain Arbuthnot, Director of Curriculum, Qualifications and Standards Directorate attended the meeting.

The Minister for Education answered Members’ questions on his statement to the Assembly on 26 September 2011 – Putting Pupils First: Shaping Our Future – The Next Steps for Education.

Agreed – the Department would inform the Committee about the implications of the appeal decision in the Henry Brothers case once the Department has had an opportunity to study the decision.

Agreed – the Minister would share with the Committee the terms of reference for the work which he is commissioning from CCMS and the E&LBs.

The Chairperson thanked the Minister for coming to Committee and for the pre-briefing provided to the Chairperson and the Deputy Chairperson on Monday 26 September 2011.

3. Date, Time and Place of Next Meeting

The Committee will be attending the shared Education Conference on 28 September 2011 at 9.00am in the Hilton Hotel, Belfast.

The Chairperson adjourned the meeting at 5.03pm.
