1. Minutes of the meeting held on 20 October 2010

Agreed: The minutes were agreed.

2. Briefing from Trade Union representatives on proposed redundancies at Belfast Metropolitan College

Jim McKeown, Monica Goligher and Brian McAnoy from the Universities and Colleges Union (UCU), together with Seamus Searson of the National Association of Schoolmasters Union of Women Teachers ( NASUWT), briefed the Committee on the Unions’ concerns about the impact of proposed redundancies at Belfast Metropolitan College. Dooley Harte representing the Northern Ireland Public Service Alliance (NIPSA) and Liam Gallagher from UNITE also provided a perspective on the situation from the viewpoint of the other unions involved. The briefing was followed by a question and answer session.

1.46 pm Mr David McClarty left the meeting

1.57 pm Mr Pat Ramsey left the meeting

Agreed: The Committee agreed to write to the Department and to Belfast Metropolitan College regarding a number of concerns raised at the meeting

1.59 pm Ms Sue Ramsey left the meeting

3. Employment (No.2) Bill

The Committee considered Clause Eight, and Clauses Eleven to Eighteen of the Employment (No.2) Bill.

Agreed: Members agreed to defer further consideration of the wording of the Explanatory Memorandum to the Bill

2.02 pm Mr Pat Ramsey rejoined the meeting

2.03 pm Mr Pat Ramsey left the meeting

2.04 pm Mr Chris Lyttle left the meeting

4. Correspondence

Members noted a number of items of correspondence and agreed responses.

The next meeting of the Committee will be held on Wednesday, 3 November 2010 at 10.00 am in Room 29, Parliament Building
