COMMITTEE FOR SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT
Inquiry into Town Centre Regeneration
The Assembly Committee for Social Development has agreed to carry out an Inquiry into town centre regeneration.
The Committee will examine the current approach to town centre regeneration in Northern Ireland.
Specifically the Committee will:
- Assess the scope and effectiveness of the programmes and policies adopted by the Department for Social Development to regenerate town centres.
- Identify areas where the application of regeneration funding has failed to address disadvantage and poverty.
- Consider the nature and effectiveness of engagement with local communities and other key stakeholders when taking forward regeneration initiatives.
- Identify and consider relevant experience elsewhere in terms of effectiveness of policy interventions.
- Report to the Assembly by March 2008.
Any organisation or individual with an interest is invited to submit written evidence to the Committee by e-mail (in the format MS Word) by 29 November 2007. Submissions should be structured to reflect each element of the Terms of Reference and should not exceed 2000 words.
