The Chair and Members to the Committee for Regional Development today welcomed the announcement that Phase Two of Belfast on the Move was to commence at the end of January.

The Chair to the Committee, Mr Jimmy Spratt MLA, said: “The proposed works will build on those carried out before Christmas and should have the same beneficial outcomes that we are now seeing in the city centre.  Despite some short-lived teething problems, we are now seeing a reduction in the number of cars in the city centre, increased use of DRD car parks, Park and Ride facilities and more passengers on buses”.

The Deputy Chair to the Committee, Mr Sean Lynch MLA, added: “The Department are doing their best to minimise disruption for visitors to the city, including working overnight and at off-peak periods.  Certainly, the Committee would call on visitors to work with the Department to allow these works to be carried out in a quick and hassle-free way”.
