Session: 2009/2010

Date: 26 April 2010

Reference: ETI 04/09/10

The Northern Ireland Assembly Committee for Enterprise, Trade and Investment, has secured a meeting with the Administrator for Quinn Insurance Ltd in response to hearing from representatives from Quinn Insurance Employees at its meeting on Thursday 22 April.

Chair of the Committee, Alban Maginness MLA said, “We recognise that it is an extremely busy time for the Administrator and we are very grateful to him for taking time to meet with us.

“It is essential that we do all that we can, as quickly as possible to get this matter resolved for the benefit of Quinn employees, customers and the economy in the west.”

He added, “Both the Irish Regulator and the Financial Services Authority in London have also agreed to meet with us. However, we feel that it is important to meet with the Administrator in the first instance, to consider what proposals he can bring forward, prior to arranging a meeting with the Regulators.”

The Committee was also reassured by Quinn Insurance representatives that both its business and private policy holders are confident that there are no issues in relation to the company’s financial security and that any and all insurance claims can be paid in full by Quinn Insurance Ltd
