Committee Meet Concerned Organisations To Discuss Legislation On Dog Breeding

The Assembly Committee for Agriculture and Rural Development is currently examining the Welfare of Animals (Dog Breeding Establishments) Regulations (NI) 2012.  The main issues of concern in the legislation include the definition of “breeding establishments”, the number of times a bitch can breed, the conditions and maintenance of a breeding bitch and her pups, and the socialisation of pups.

The Committee will hold an event tomorrow (Tuesday 18 September) to meet concerned organisations and hear their views on the proposed legislation.

The subordinate legislation on Dog Breeding Establishments will be introduced under the Welfare of Animals Act (NI) 2011.
