Worked for Northern Ireland Electricity as a Manager in the Lurgan Office and then as Armagh area Credit Controller over Banbridge, Lurgan, Lisburn, Newry and Portadown.
Politician.

Elected to Lurgan Borough Council at the age of 23 in 1964 and elected Ulster's youngest Mayor in 1968.
In 1973 Lurgan and Portadown Borough Councils amalgamated to form Craigavon Borough Council and was elected Mayor of Craigavon Borough Council in 1982/83, 1988/89 and 2001/02.
Elected as M.L.A for Upper Bann Constituency in 2003 and holds the position as Department of Environment spokesperson for the Ulster Unionist Party.

Served on Board of Visitors at H.M. Prison Maze for 14 years in the mid 1970s and during that time held position of Chairman of Young Offenders Centre at Maze and as a result of voluntary work at H.M. Prison Maze was awarded the MBE.
In 1998 appointed a Justice of the Peace and also served as HIgh Sheriff of County Armagh.
Chairman of Board of Governors for Carrick Primary School and Dickson Primary School both in Lurgan.
Past President of Waringstown Cricket Club and now a life member.
Past Chairman and Director of Glenavon Football & Athletic Club.
Member of Lurgan Chamber of Commerce.
Founder Chairman and Director of Craigavon Industrial Development Organisation.
Member of Craigavon District Policing Partnership.
Member of Loyal Orange Order, Black Institution and member of the Masonic Order.
