NEW ASSEMBLY CLERK/DIRECTOR-GENERAL APPOINTED
The Northern Ireland Assembly has announced the appointment of Mr Trevor Reaney, as Clerk/Director-General. He will take up post by 1 September 2008.
The Clerk/Director-General is responsible to the Assembly Commission for the delivery of the organisation’s objectives and for the management of the Assembly Secretariat. He is also responsible for providing procedural advice to the Speaker and Members of Assembly and is the Accounting Officer for the organisation.
Commenting on the appointment, Speaker of the Assembly, Mr William Hay MLA said, "We are delighted that Trevor has accepted the post of Clerk/Director-General and that he will be joining us before the beginning of the next Assembly Session.
"Trevor has had a distinguished career in public service having served as Chief Executive of Craigavon Borough Council and currently as Chief Executive of the NI Policing Board. The Assembly will benefit greatly from his experience."
Mr Reaney, speaking of his appointment said, "I am delighted to be given the opportunity to join the Assembly Secretariat at such a significant time. I look forward to building on the excellent achievements to date and to working with the Commission and the staff to provide the best possible services to Assembly Members and the NI public."

Trevor Reaney biography

Trevor Reaney was appointed Chief Executive of the Northern Ireland Policing Board in January 2004. He began his career in the hospitality industry and has held a number of management positions in both the private and public sectors. Before joining the Board, Trevor had been Chief Executive of Craigavon Borough Council since 1996 and prior to that, held the post of Director of Commercial Services with the Southern Education and Library Board from 1990 to 1996.
A graduate of the Open University, obtaining a Masters degree in Business Administration, he has also undertaken studies at the Federal Executive Institute, Charlottesville, USA; JFK School of Government at Harvard University and with the Institute of Directors.
