The Commission’s Purpose, Vision, Strategic Priorities and Values
In order to inform the recent Review of the Assembly Secretariat and future strategic planning, the Commission has agreed statements of Purpose and Vision, and has identified four Strategic Priorities where it intends to focus its attention. The Commission has also agreed a set of values which it expects all staff within the Assembly’s Secretariat to demonstrate in their daily work. Review of the Assembly Secretariat
In July 2007 the Assembly Commission agreed that a comprehensive review of the Assembly Secretariat should be undertaken. The Commission based this decision on its view that much of the uncertainty and instability against which the Secretariat had been originally established had been removed, and that the time was now right to look ahead with confidence to how the Secretariat should develop during this mandate and the next.
To guide the Review, the Commission established a Steering Group and appointed the Rt. Hon. George Reid, the former Presiding Officer of the Scottish Parliament, as its chair. Mr John Hunter, former Permanent Secretary at the Department of Finance and Personnel, was appointed to serve as Director.
The Review concluded in October 2007. A full report of the Review is available here.
The Northern Ireland Assembly Secretariat Corporate Plan 2008 – 2011
The Assembly Commission endorsed the Corporate Plan for the Northern Ireland Assembly Secretariat on 17 April 2008.
The Plan covers the next three years and has been developed using the balanced scorecard approach. It outlines nineteen priority objectives for action, aligned to the strategic priorities set by the Commission:
- Delivering continuous improvement of support for Members in their work in Plenary sessions, Committees and constituencies;
- Developing a dynamic and responsive strategy for Outreach and Public Engagement;
- Fully and effectively implementing the 2007 Review of the Assembly Secretariat; and
- Managing and developing accommodation to facilitate all of the above.
