Delegation joins First World War events hosted by Flemish Parliament

Following an invitation from the Speaker of the Flemish Parliament, a delegation from the Northern Ireland Assembly will join with others from all the Parliaments and Assemblies in the UK and Ireland, for a two day programme of events on 16 and 17 October to mark the centenary of the First World War.

Assembly Bursary Programme Welcomes First US Fulbright Scholar

The Clerk/Chief Executive of the Northern Ireland Assembly Mr Trevor Reaney hosted a reception in Parliament Buildings earlier this week to welcome this year’s intake of Assembly Bursary students, which for the first time in the programme’s history will include a US Fulbright Scholar.

Assembly pays its respect to the former First Minister, the Rt Hon The Lord Bannside

The Northern Ireland Assembly will suspend its business today to pay respects to the Rt Hon The Lord Bannside, the former First Minister, Reverend Dr Ian Paisley.



Statement from William Hay, MLA, Speaker of the NI Assembly

Speaking today on the death of Rt Hon The Lord Bannside, the Speaker said: "I am deeply saddened to hear of Ian Paisley’s passing and on behalf of all Members of the Northern Ireland Assembly, I express my heartfelt sympathy to his family whom he held dear. Regardless of how individual Assembly Members regarded his politics, there is no doubt that today we have lost one of the most influential figures in the history of Northern Ireland."
