Charities Bill - Call for Evidence

The Charities Bill will amend the public benefit provision of the Charities Act (Northern Ireland) 2008 to provide clarity on the requirement to be met in determining whether an institution is, or is not, a charity within the meaning of that Act.

The Bill also provides a legislative vehicle for a number of other outstanding amendments to the 2008 Act.

The Bill provides for the transfer of functions which still remain within the Department’s jurisdiction, to that of the Charity Commission for Northern Ireland.

Any organisation or individual with an interest in this consultation is invited to submit evidence to the Committee by e-mail to committee.socialdevelopment@niassembly.gov.uk or by post to:

Committee Clerk, Room 412, Parliament Buildings, Ballymiscaw, Stormont, Belfast BT4 3XX.

The evidence must be structured to address the specific clauses of the Bill.

If you do not have access to the internet or e-mail facilities or you have any other enquiries, please contact the Committee Clerk on 028 9052 1864.

Please note: The closing date for submissions was 28 September 2012.
