Agriculture and Rural Development Tuesday 1 October 2013

Session: 2013/2014

Date: 01 October 2013

Topical Questions to the Minister for Agriculture and Rural Development, Mrs Michelle O’Neill, became the focal point for her Question Time session.

A £640,000 bill from the Ministry of Defence for the use of rescue helicopters during the snow crisis earlier in the year when the Irish Government’s approach to this was not to charge for the use of its air corps helicopters.

The Ministers Sinn Fein colleague, Daithi McKay, asked the minister ‘’ whether, if a similar situation developed in the future, would she consider only availing of services where charges were waived’’.

Single Farm Payments and hardship payments were other topics that the Minister had to deal with during question time today. Dr McDonnell MLA and Mr Byrne MLA both questioned the minister on this matter with a positive return from the Agriculture Minister.

Mr McKinney MLA asked the minister ‘’what discussions have taken place with the Minister for Agriculture , Food and the Marine about tackling bovine tuberculosis on an all –island basis’’.
