Speaker Welcomes Success of Parliament Buildings Open Day
Date: Monday, 19 November 2012

The Speaker of the Northern Ireland Assembly has welcomed the success of the Open Day on the 17th November to mark the 80th anniversary of Parliament Buildings and reminded the public that there are opportunities all year round to visit Stormont.
“I am absolutely delighted that close to 5,000 people from right across Northern Ireland chose to join us on Saturday for the Open Day at Parliament Buildings. There was a real family atmosphere in the building and I want to thank all the staff and those behind the wide range of performances and activities who made the day such a success.”
“The Assembly Commission’s priority for marking the 80th anniversary of Parliament Buildings was to involve the public and, while accommodating so many people through the doors in such a short period of time was a challenge, it was great to speak to so many people who had never been here before. However, I also want to remind those who weren’t able to join us on Saturday that there are opportunities all year round to visit Parliament Buildings with regular public tours. I have often said that this building belongs to the people it represents and the 80th anniversary has been a great initiative to highlight that.”
