Committee Welcomes Clearway Consultation

The Chairperson and Members of the Committee for Regional Development welcomes the announcement of a public consultation on proposals to introduce experimental changes to the urban clearway restrictions on three main roads in South Belfast.

The Chairperson of the Committee, Jimmy Spratt MLA, said: "I am delighted that the Minister and his officials have brought about this consultation on a matter raised by the Committee as well as businesses and residents in the area. The current arrangements are clearly not working and are a barrier towards investment in the area.

"Although this is potentially a 10 month process, I am pleased that this could be concluded in time for the 2013 Christmas retail period which is critical to retail in the area. I would echo the Minister's call for people in the area to voice their opinion during the consultation process."
