Committee Inquiry puts Spotlight on Creative Industries
Session: 2011/2012
Date: Tuesday, 25 October 2011
Reference: CAL 04/11/12
The Northern Ireland Assembly Committee for Culture, Arts and Leisure has launched an inquiry into the creative industries in Northern Ireland.
These industries 1, which include the performing arts, craft, fashion, multi-media, gaming software and film, have the potential to make an increasing contribution to the Northern Ireland economy. The inquiry will look at the ways government supports the development of these industries through its policies, strategies and frameworks, and identify whether additional support is needed.
Launching the Inquiry, Chairperson of the Committee, Miss Michelle McIlveen MLA, said: “It is widely accepted that the creative industries have the potential to make significant economic and social contributions to society. With its capacity for job and wealth creation, it is essential that the correct policies are in place to ensure conditions are right to stimulate industry growth, maximise and harness economic benefits, and cultivate creativity.”
The specific Terms of Reference for the Committee’s inquiry can be viewed on the Assembly website, www.niassembly.gov.uk, including instructions on how to submit written evidence.
