Committee Encourages Participation in World Book Day
Session: 2011/2012
Date: Thursday, 01 March 2012
Reference: CAL 06/11/12
The Northern Ireland Assembly Committee for Culture, Arts and Leisure today marked World Book Day by encouraging children and young people to read a book.
Committee Chairperson, Michelle McIlveen, said: “Today marks the 15th World Book Day, a celebration of illustrators, books and reading celebrated in over 100 countries worldwide.
“The main aim of World Book Day is to inspire children to explore the pleasure of reading a book.
“The Committee recognises how information, learning and reading can have a positive impact on all our lives and particularly our mental health. Reading enriches our lives with knowledge and helps to develop our imagination, allowing us to explore our creative side. That is why it is so important that children and young people experience the pleasure and joy from reading a book during their formative years.”
