Like in many other aspects of life, there is no optimal solution and we need to strike an acceptable balance between the interests of farmers and preserving the environment. Focus too much on the former and we'll cause ecological damage, focus too much on the latter and we'll destroy jobs. Maybe the best thing would be to take a leaf out of the book of the Westmill solar power project in Oxfordshire, which combines agricultural and ecological interests while creating jobs and wealth for the community at large. In Northern Ireland, it would probably be better to focus on wind power instead, because there's greater potential. Anyway, let's hope the Committee finds an acceptable solution.
