Committee Hosts Event to Learn About Role of New SME EU Envoy

17/11/2011

by: Assembly Round Up

In May 2011 the European Commission announced the creation of a network of Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises (SME) Envoys for member states.

The Enterprise, Trade and Investment Committee invited organisations and bodies that provide support to SMEs along to an event today to find out more about the role.  A representative from the UK Envoy’s Office attended the event and explained that the new role was to help ensure that administrations “think small first” and take the interests of SMEs into account for every new law and regulation. The Envoys will also check the impact of EU law on SMEs and ensure that policies at national, regional and local level are enterprise friendly.

Organisations had the opportunity to discuss the sort of support and help both they and SMEs needed in dealing with Europe.  The Committee will be writing a short report on what was discussed at the event which will be sent to the Envoy’s Office to assist him in his work.
