Nine trainees from the NOW project (North and West Belfast), which trains and supports young people with learning difficulties, got the opportunity to show off their culinary and hospitality skills at a recent event hosted by the Assembly’s Committee for Employment and Learning.

The Masterchef-style inspired culinary event involved the young people, in preparing and serving a four course meal. On hand to taste the fruits of their labour were specially invited guests including parents and family as well as Members of the Employment and Learning Committee.

Keeping a careful eye on the proceedings were two of Northern Ireland’s best known chefs, Balloo House’s Danny Miller and Andy Rea from Mourne Seafood Bar and Cookery School. Both chefs said they were completely blown away by the levels of skill, creativity and determination shown by the young people involved.

Popular local food critic, John Ferris who compered the event was also impressed – promising a top notch review for the young people and their achievements.
