18/01/2011

by: Assembly Round Up

A long awaited report into those not in education, employment or training (so called NEETs) will be debated in the Assembly Chamber today. One of the shocking facts brought out the report is the cost to the economy of youth unemployment—some £250 million per year.

The Committee for Employment and Learning has spent over a year examining the issue and looking at ways to help young people.

The Committee has worked closely with the Department for Employment and Learning and many of the report’s recommendations have been taken up by the Department and Executive for action.

You can watch this debate live on the Assembly’s website.
