The Committee was established to advise and assist the Minister for Health, Social Services and Public Safety, Edwin Poots MLA, on matters within his responsibility as a Minister. The Committee undertakes a scrutiny, policy development and consultation role with respect to the Department of Health, Social Services and Public Safety and plays a key role in the consideration and development of legislation. The Committee Chairperson is Ms Maeve McLaughlin .

The Committee for Health, Social Services and Public Safety will next meet on 5 November 2014 at 2.00pm in Room 29, Parliament Buildings when the Committee will be briefed by departmental officials on the outcome of the June and October Monitoring Rounds in the context of Departmental Spending Plans.

The Committee will also consider a proposed Legislative Consent Motion in relation to the Private Members’ Bill on the Regulation of Healthcare Professionals before considering proposals for handling the Committee Stage of the Food Hygiene Rating Bill and the proposed amendments to the Safeguarding Board for Northern Ireland (Membership, Procedure, Functions and Committee) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2012.
