Committee for the Environment

Welcome to the Home Page of the Committee for the Environment. The committee was established to advise and assist the Minister of the Environment, Alex Attwood MLA, on matters within his responsibility as a Minister. The committee undertakes a scrutiny, policy development and consultation role with respect to the Department of the Environment and plays a key role in the consideration and development of legislation. The Committee Chairperson is Ms Anna Lo.

Latest News

The Environment Committee will meet at 10am on Thursday 30 May when the Department will deliver the June monitoring round.

The Committee will also begin clause by clause consideration of the Planning Bill.

Planning Bill - Committee Stage

The Planning Bill was formally introduced to the Northern Ireland Assembly on 14 January 2013 and received its Second Reading on 22 January 2013. The Bill has now been referred to the Committee for the Environment which has responsibility for the Committee Stage of the Bill.

The Northern Ireland Assembly Committee for the Environment recently held a meeting at the Ecos Centre, Ballymena.  During the meeting, the Committee continued its clause by clause scrutiny of the Marine Bill; discussed consultation responses on proposed Changes to the Learner and Restricted Driver Schemes and on Graduated Licensing; and received a briefing from the Rivers Trust on its role.  Pictured with Members of the Committee after the meeting are Councillor Hubert Nicholl and Councillor Audrey Wales.
