Welcome to the Home Page of the Committee for Enterprise, Trade and Investment. The committee was established to advise and assist the Minister of Enterprise, Trade and Investment, Ms Arlene Foster MLA, on matters within her responsibility as a Minister. The committee undertakes a scrutiny, policy development and consultation role with respect to the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Investment and plays a key role in the consideration and development of legislation. The Committee Chairperson is Mr Alban Maginness. 

Latest News

The next meeting of the ETI Committee will take place at 10.00am on Thursday 24 May. The meeting will begin in closed session when Members will continue the Committee’s Inquiry into Research and Development.

It will then move into open session when Members will receive a briefing from The Crown Estate with details of Northern Ireland Offshore Renewable Energy Leasing Round.

The Committee will also receive an update from George Best Belfast City Airport on the airport’s current role as a gateway for NI tourism and business.

Inquiry into Developing the Northern Ireland Economy through Innovation, Research & Development

Northern Ireland has one of the lowest spends on research and development compared to other regions in the UK. The Committee for Enterprise Trade and Investment wants to find out why. Committee Chair, Alban Maginness MLA and Committee Member Robin Newton talk to us about their Inquiry into the issue and what they hope to achieve.

The Northern Ireland Assembly Committee for Enterprise, Trade and Investment recently held their weekly meeting at the South Eastern Regional College’s (SERC) Newtownards Campus.  The Committee was briefed on the work of the Environmental Skills Centre which is a hub for sustainable development and renewable technology and provides training in Waste Management.  During the meeting Members also received a presentation from the Confederation of British Industry on the Committee’s Inquiry into Research and Development.
