Potential areas of work for the Audit Committee

This Briefing Paper has been prepared to identify potential areas of work for the Assembly’s Audit Committee. The research highlights three possible areas of focus, based on developments elsewhere in the UK and on issues which have arisen in the recent past in Northern Ireland. Brief details are given in relation to: •The financial independence of the Northern Ireland Audit Office (NIAO) from the Northern Ireland Executive; •The accountability of the NIAO of the Assembly; and, •Reforms to the governance of the National Audit Office (NAO) and Welsh Audit Office (WAO).
