Assembly and Executive Review Committee

The Assembly & Executive Review Committee is established under the Northern Ireland Act 1998. Its role is to review matters relating to the functioning of the Assembly and the Executive.

In particular, the Committee is required to review and report on the operation of Parts III and IV of the Northern Ireland Act 1998.  Part III deals with Executive Authorities and Part IV deals with a range of areas including Assembly Elections and Assembly Proceedings etc.

The Committee recently carried out a ‘Review of the Number of Members of the Northern Ireland Legislative Assembly and of the Reduction in the Number of Departments’ as part of its review of Parts III and IV of the Northern Ireland Act 1998.  You can view a copy of its Report of this Review here. The next meeting of the Assembly and Executive Review Committee will take place at 11am on Tuesday, 4th June. The Committee will continue its Review of d’Hondt, Community Designation and Provisions for Opposition and will agree its position on key issues raised in the Review.
